The North American Capacitor market got off to a slow start this year, with sales down 7% in units and 3% in dollars, according to the most recent market report from the Electronic Components Industry Association (ECIA).
ECIA represents distributors, manufacturers, and manufacturer representatives of electronic components. Released this week, the capacitor market report covers the January to April 2015 timeframe and measures sales against the same period a year ago. The group said that 44% of capacitor sales reported during the period were shipped through the distribution channel.
ECIA reported that bookings were down for the first four months of the year, as well.
“Total reported bookings for all capacitor categories in North America were down 9% in units and 8% in dollars January through April 2015 compared to the same period in 2014,” according to ECIA, adding that Book to Bill was .98 in units and 1.05 in dollars.
ECIA’s reports track sales of passive components with information provided by its members. The reports track unit and net dollar values of components sold and booked through North American manufacturing facilities, including offshore production, private label, and others.
