Sager Electronics has started selling flexible cable products from Parlex, a subsidiary of the motor and actuator giant Johnson Electric. With the distribution deal, Sager adds another Johnson Electric brand to its stable, which already includes Saia-Burgess and Ledex.
Johnson Electric makes components for everything from Ford cars to Dyson vacuums to Johnson & Johnson blood pressure monitors. The Hong Kong-based company bought Parlex for $43.8 million in 2005 to expand its offerings in flat flexible cables and interconnects, which are used to squeeze circuit boards into cars, medical devices, and consumer electronics.
“Sager is well positioned to expand Parlex’s business,” said Rocky Scalise, the distribution manager for Johnson Electric North America, in a statement. “We look forward to the Sager sales team, together with our sales representatives, developing and supporting new customers in the electronic assembly space.”
Parlex’s technology includes cable assemblies, flex circuits, and contact plates that providing shielding against electromagnetic interference. It also sells breakable conductors that disable payment terminals if hackers try to physically drill into the electronics to steal data.
