Hello, and welcome back to Market Moves Supply Chain!

The Semiconductor Industry Association projects that domestic chip manufacturing is on pace to triple in size by 2032. At the same time, the White House announced that it is hiking tariffs on $18 billion worth of Chinese imports, including the tariff for semiconductors which will surge from 25% to 50% by next year.

Furthermore, FTR Transportation Intelligence estimates that the freight recession will begin to see some improvements later this year, though growth will be relatively flat. The freight market also faces a continued rise in cargo theft, as Q1 2024 saw an increase of 46% compared to Q1 2023 according to data compiled by CargoNet.

Earlier this month, U.S. Senators introduced The Warehouse Worker Protection Act, splitting opinions as The Teamsters view it as a safety measure while the Wholesalers Distributors Association thinks it may be bad for business.
