Heard in the Channel: Security and IoT to Headline Electronica Next Month

Oct. 7, 2014
Electronica presents workshops on security solutions for the networked world to address concerns amid rising popularity of IoT market; plus news from Mouser, Allied, and TTI.

When electronics industry professionals meet for Electronica 2014 in Munich next month, cyber security will take center stage as show organizers aim to address rising concerns in the age of The Internet of Things.

Exhibitors will showcase the latest cyber security solutions all week at Electronica, which runs November 11-14, but show organizers have also planned a series of seminars addressing the topic. A CEO roundtable on the first day of the event will address “Internet of Things: Possibilities, Challenges, and the Question of Security,” featuring speakers from STMicroelectronics, NXP, Freescale, and Infineon. Other sessions throughout the week will address security concerns for networked companies, wearable technology and the smart home, and rising issues surrounding security in “connected” cars.

The driving force behind the sessions is the semiconductor industry’s key role in the success of the Internet of Things.

“Its products and solutions are helping to ensure that the processes run as quickly, smoothly, and reliably as possible,” Electronica officials said in announcing the slate of seminars in late September.

Electronica 2014 is the 26th International Trade Fair for Electronic Components, Systems, and Applications. For more information, visit the Electronica 2014 website.

  • Wilbrecht LEDCO has added symbol/legend marking options to its 100/600 series panel LEDs for custom applications. Custom and universal symbols can be used for simple identification, and LEDs are available in three intensities: high efficiency; daylight readable super bright; and, super ultra bright.

  • Mouser Electronics is shipping Intel Edison—a postage stamp sized computer, powered by a 22-nm Intel Atom SoC that includes a dual-core, dual-threaded CPU running at 500Mhz and a 32-bit Quark MCU running at 100Mhz. It will initially support C/C++ with an Arduino development board, and later will support Node.js, Python, the Viper RTOS, and Visual Programming support. Additionally, Mouser has globally released MultiSIM BLUE—the NI Multisim Component Evaluator Mouser Edition. MultiSIM BLUE is an all-in-one circuit simulation tool—complete with integrated PCB layout and Bill of Materials (BOM).

  • Allied Electronics has announced it will distribute the FLIP TG165 Imaging IR Thermometer, being released widely in early 2015. The TG165 has a 24:1 spot ratio, dual laser pointers, and a wide temperature range from 13°F to 716°F.

  • TTI, Inc. has announced it has added FCT Electronics Group as a new connector supplier. The supplier specializes in designing and manufacturing custom mixed-layout connectors and cable assemblies.
